Woods & Co Recruitment is currently partnered with a boutique catering company based in the heart of New York City's East Village. Committed to delivering hyper-seasonal, produce-driven, and health-centric food in a sustainable and elevated format, they are an industry leader specializing in both drop-off catering for high-end luxury brands and full-service event catering.

 

Together, we are on the lookout for a passionate and detail-oriented Sous Chef to help lead their kitchen team. This role gives you the authority to be a key leader within the kitchen, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency across all production while serving as the driving force behind translating the Executive Chef’s vision into day-to-day operations.

  • A full-time schedule, generally working 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday (with occasional weekend work expected based on seasonality and events).

  • Salary: 70-80k/annum + bonus

What do you do?

  • Support the Executive Chef in executing daily culinary operations at the highest level, and step in to lead the kitchen in their absence.

  • Actively work on the line and in prep (especially during peak periods), executing all menu items to ensure consistency in flavor, presentation, and quality.

  • Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen staff on recipes, techniques, and standards while reinforcing team accountability.

  • Conduct daily line checks, enforce quality control, and maintain proper food handling, storage, and rotation (ServSafe compliant).

  • Assist with scheduling and labor management based on business needs, identifying inefficiencies in service and proactively addressing them.

  • Assist with ordering, inventory management, and maintaining appropriate product levels, while overseeing overall kitchen organization and equipment maintenance.

 

What do you need?

  • 3–5+ years of experience in a fast-paced, high-level kitchen environment.

  • A strong understanding of catering, production kitchens, or high-volume service.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, coupled with a solid understanding of food safety and kitchen operations.

  • Strong communication and team leadership abilities, with the capacity to lead from the front and work hands-on alongside your team.

  • The physical ability to be on your feet for most of the day, maneuver through all kitchen areas, and lift at least 50 pounds.

  • English fluency (Spanish fluency is highly preferred).
